The second Mahjong SuperCup took place last weekend at the Grand Waldo casino with a total of three hundred and fifty players competing. The players qualified from a player pool of around 40,000 players. The event took two days to complete and Wang Yuhan of Taiwan took the first place prize.

Wang Yuhan is nicknamed the “pillow girl” as she would bring a red pillow with her through the twelve rounds of play since she started in Taipei in October. Wang has stated she believes the pillow brings her luck and it helps when she gets nervous.

It must have some magical powers as Wang outplayed the other three hundred forty nine players to take home the first place prize of $330,000 out of the $560,000 prize pool. Included in the playing field were more than thirty celebrities from Hong Kong, Taiwan and other countries.

Desmond Chu, the Director of SuperCup Entertainment (Holdings) Ltd. Stated in a statement: “We are delighted to see such enthusiasm in the event despite the economic downturn. The turnout was incredible. We’ve had a tremendous breakthrough this year having run qualifiers in four regions and the next year we believe we can expand the scale and reach to even more countries and across different countries.”
