The China Press recently reported that many social organizations in Kulim, Malaysia are being denied renewal of their mahjong permits. This of course would mean they would not be allowed to play the game they love.
Chinese social organizations in Kulim have been experiencing hardships when it comes to renewing their mahjong permits. Many Chinese members of the community are becoming anxious over the difficult time. The China Press also reported that many members of the community consider the move to be disrespectful of the Chinese.
Wong Ngean Foh the division chairman of Bandar Baru Kulim Gerakan told the news that the permit for the Serdang Old Boys Association was not renewed. Wong also stated that other associations are having problems as well when it comes to having their permits renewed.
Wong commented that the associations should be able to play mahjong as they see it for its entertainment value not as a way to gamble.
