Policemen Caught Playing Mahjong Instead of Patrolling the Streets
Policemen are supposed to be upstanding citizens who help keep criminals at bay and the streets safe. Many policemen on the job uphold their job position and take special care of their duties and some do not. In Malaysia, five policemen were supposed to be patrolling the streets and keeping people safe. Yet they had other ideas.

The men decided to gather in a home in Jalan Tebrau and gamble on a game of Mahjong. The five officers are in their 20s and 30s and were dressed in their uniforms and were supposed to be on patrol duty in various parts of the area. Instead they were playing Mahjong and placing bets.

The Bukit Aman police received a tip and raided the home. The five gambling policemen were caught off guard as their home was raided. Police seized the Mahjong table and many Mahjong game tiles from the house.

The gamblers have been suspended from their duties and will face disciplinary action. Under police operating procedures, officers who are on patrol are not supposed to gather in groups to socialize, so the Mahjong game was breaking that procedure.

It is unknown how long the men had been playing Mahjong, it is unclear if it had been going on for a long period of time or if this was the first time. Other officers are investigating this matter.
