Man in jail over mahjong game found dead
Zhou Lingguang was taken into custody last summer for playing mahjong, which can sometimes be considered an illegal activity in South China. The man was sentenced to one year in jail but was found dead this past Monday. Protestors recently took to the streets of South China to call for justice for Zhou. They are saying he died under suspicious circumstances. The family is finding it hard to believe that the thirty five year old man’s heart stopped for no reason.
His brother stated that the family had visited him last Thursday and he seemed ‘ok’. Zhou had told his brother he would be getting out next month from prison for good behavior. The family and protestors were able to see Zhou’s body but not up-close. The family is worried that the prison will creamate the body before they can find out what happened.
It is unfortunate that Zhou was jailed for playing mahjong and he was set to be released very soon. Hopefully the family will be able to find out more details so they can be at peace with his passing.
