“Chinese King of Mahjong” Crowned this past Week
Hu Zhiwei is a twenty nine year old with a Masters degree of Environmental Studies from Peking University. Zhiwei is from Jiangxi and lived a quiet life. But his life will be quiet no longer as Zhiwei was just named the “Chinese King of Mahjong” last week after winning a major mahjong tournament. Zhiwei competed in the 2008 Mahjong Super Cup China District Finals in Guangzhou on November 24th and beat all of his opponents in the matches and won with a six point lead over the first runner up. Zhiwei was crowned the “Chinese King of Mahjong” and took home a cash prize of 10,000 Yuan.
Zhiwei will now go to compete for the World Finals of Mahjong Super Cup on December 13th at Macao SAR. Zhiwei has a long list of mahjong titles and accomplishments. In 2006 Zhiwei was a member of the championship team that won the China Mahjong Open Championship and in 2007 he finished in fifth at the World Cup Mahjong Series Championships.
